So, I saw the movie Suckerpunch over the weekend and it made me think of you, Lisa! You should go see it. It has these strong female characters in it that are not unlike the characters you have come up with out of your brilliant head! It definitely made me think of Rashel, Poppy, Diana, and the list goes on and on.

Also congratulations on making #5, I honestly am hoping that was like a punch in the face to the people who said you can't write the books anymore. You showed them

(I live in Singapore so the books take a longer time to reach here). Thank you so much for a wonderful series; your books are what I turn to when I feel down in the dumps. Hi LJ,I have something that is really bothering me, and I hope you can answer. After Midnight, where would you have gone with the story, who would end up with whom? I know you said you didn't know who would end up with Elena, but that was a while ago. If you followed your heart now, would you choose Stefan (because then they fired you for NO reason whatsoever) or Damon? I am just so curious, and feel like if I don't get a reply then I won't know the ending to a tremendously great story! I won't be reading the next book, so I would appreciate a reply as do all your readers!

I would just like to say for the record, that I am a hardcore Delana fan, and I feel horrible to know that there isn't the slightest chance of them ending up together. Usually I am the person to read a romance story and like the original guy, but you lured me to the dark side :) and now I absolutely love Damon. Your writing is too great for its own good

I know what you mean and I am completely agravated that they a trashing such a great series. If LJ wanted her to end up with Stefan, she would have wrote it that way. And even though I love Damon, its better to have an author who writes the real ending, than a writer who basically writes large amounts of fan-fic, and changes the ending to something completely expectable, and sorry, kind of a cheesy way to end the books.
Watch Elana just be like, "yeah I am SO over Damon... Lets go get married Stefan!"
It ruins thy series.... I bet the sales for it will drop severly...

I think I read somewhere that Midnight was entirely L.J. Smith's. And that she'd already written part of Phantom. Either way... I totally agree that she should've been allowed to continue her books, no matter who ends up with who - even though I don't like the Delena idea.

Still, I don't think that insulting the ghostwritter will get us anywhere. No offence.

Do you really think the petition thing will change the publishers' minds? (asks hopefully)

A huge bout of casting just came out for the Secret Circle pilot. Austrailian actess Phoebe Tonkin has been cast as Faye, Thomas Dekker has been cast as Adam, Jessica Parker Kennedy as Melissa, Shelley Hennig as Diana, Louis Hunter as Nick, Gale Harold as Diana's father, who apparently has a much larger role in the TV series, and the female principle is played by Natasha Henstridge.

Wow #5 thats great, but I think you are #1 no question about it! I have enjoyed all of your writing. To think you've been writing since I was young and it took my daughter to get me to read vampire diaries and then I was hooked and read all the other books you wrote. I suppose its because of my reading problem didn't know I had one till I was in 9th grade it took that long for a teacher to notice it. He gave me an ability to read and understand what I was reading first time I ever got an A in reading was then, but I still had draw backs on reading. He taught me to read everything I read 3x so I have read all your books that I can get my hands on 3x. It makes my daughter mad cause I was able to read 3 NW books in 2 days 3x. Thanks to Mr. Maz who recently passed away this month. He taught me to understand reading, but you recently taught me to love the adventure of reading. You are far better than a great writer, you're the best. I read all 9NW in 1 week. My daughter's still on 5th book.

Think it would be cool for you to create a sort of guardian of the mythical relms and they live in Jenny's world and they can resurrect Julian in the flesh sort of. I loved the Forbidden Game series! I actually think it may be my favorite of all of LJ Smith's books, though all of them are amazing. I think it would be amazing to have a sequel! I loved that series so much and couldn't stop crying at the end. I want Julian to come back and I want Jenny to fall in love with him like she did when the other shadow men killed him. Julian and Jenny are one of my favorite pairs in all or LJ Smith's series. I would love to see a sequel for their series! I miss seeing them together!

I know that many of us are going to quit reading the VD series since L.J. Smith's not writing the books anymore. But will any of you out there read the ghostwriter's work? Out of curiousity? I mean, even though - to most of us - VD has ended the moment L.J. Smith stopped wrting them, the characters' fates lie in that ghostwriter's hands. Don't you want to find out what she'll do with them? Other than having a Stelena ending, of course...

I, for one, have no clue what I'll do when Phantom comes out.

After reading Midnight, I was still craving more of my favorite characters, so I decided with much deliberation to read, "Stephan's Diaries". While you can Tell they are not written by our favorite writer, they are her children, and just like the TV series she did give them life (but obviously it is different due to need to create back stories for characters, otherwise the show would be rather flat, and if the books were that detailed they'd be twice as long), and so when I already have an idea of the characters core personality, I can sort of forgive the differences. They are already in my brain. If you must just think of it as fan fic.

I don't think you have heard that LJ will not write any more due to the publishers or whoever (I like to think of them as evil gremlins who like to torture fans) but anyway....The next book coming out is in like October 2011 (USA) and it is written by a ghost writer. As a young Adult at age 27 I love reading the Vampire Diaries. Your writing is so good that anyone young or old can read it and enjoy it. THE characters you breath life into are able to draw just about anyone in. I as a Vampire fan enjoy books from any author and plan to from years to come. I have just few minutes ago finished Midnight, I mean all of the books have gripped me in such a way that when reading them I feel like I am actually there with the characters in the extraordinary adventures they get into, it's that intense. I cried at the end of it because you can't help seeing Damon through Elena's eyes as if we are Elena and we end up falling in love with him. With Damon.

I think Damon would either have turned out as a new "old one" (he became human then back to a vampire which has got to do something to your system) or somehow maiden tears from Elena and Bonnie healed him. Elena and Damon would have gotten togeather (I am a Bamon fan, but lets face it LJ was obviously going to stick Elena and Damon togeather) I would hope Bonnie would get with either Stephen or even better Sage. Merideth would find her brother (probably the villan in the next set of books) and kill him but not herself. That's all the hypethitical I can do without choking up.... I AM NOT FOND OF THOSE EVIL GREMLIN PUBLISHERS OR WHOEVER TOOK THE VD SERIES FROM LJ!!!!!! AAAHHHHGGGGGG!! !!! And I cannont find an angry face here. So use your imagination.

I think I've fallen in love with Midnight and could read it over and over again. I found myself laughing, smirking, smiling, and near the end, crying...crying because it was written so beautifully that it seemed real. And I just can't get over how very very GOOD it was. I am a complete Delena fan and always will be. I have a rule about these things--this world that is Vampire Diaries and these people that we've all come to love in these books were created and had life breathed into them by L.J. Smith. Only L.J. Smith can decide what happens to them. That's where I stand. Thank you for an incredibly gripping and suspenseful Midnight.

Second-to my fellow fans- I was appalled like many of you to find out that L.J. Smith was fired from writing her own books. My first thought was to boycott any future Vampire Diary books. However, Ms. Smith has asked us not to, and I respect that. Still, I cannot remain silent. I understand that Alloy entertainment are the ones responsible for the firing. I found their website and they have an area to email them. I sent an email making a case for L.J. Smith to continue writing the Vampire Diaries. I love the Vampire Diaries Series! Actually all of L.J.Smiths books! They are superb ! You cannot compare them to any others.... By far my favorites. I will not give up hope that the next vampire diaries book might miraculously be published by L.J.Smith because rights were returned to her. But... If not i think if you want to still continue reading the books that is fine. When i read Stefan diaries (which i disliked) i ignored how they changed allot of characteristics and turned it into something different. When i read i read it as a different book not connected to L.J.Smiths work. I'm hoping to make sense of this... If I ever decide to read more V.Diaries books that are not published by L.J.Smith i will read it as its own, separate from L.J.Smiths work. I will still hope for the best... L.J.Smiths V.Diaries stories that she wrote will eternally burn bright to me and her other fans.

I simply don't understand why LJ has been fired. Since when do publishers care whether the story goes as they planned, as long as they are earning money from the sales? Especially with the TV series, sales of the books must be at an all-time high.
Everyone who has read Midnight has stated how incredibly emotive the last chapters were - how can such a compellingly talented author be fired?
Regardless of the why's, LJ needs our support now more than ever, and if we all voice our feelings LJ could be reappointed to her rightful position as the author of The Vampire Diaries.

The decision was made "to make the fans happy", wasn't it? And to make money? thank you ms smith for the wonderful nights back when i was 14 when i first read the first night world book. i am now thirty and i remember trying to guess who would play so and so characters from the series during my chemistry class in school with my friend. so when i finally got to see one of your books on screen i really could not believe it. and i must say its awesome. take away the fact the guy playing damon is so hot as he plays the character very well (as do the other cast members respectively) the intense and thrilling plot line of a ms smith adventure is still going strong, more like fireworks really. anywho before i get carried away i just hope you read this simply to know that i am your fan and i love you for writing those books and i love reading them to this day. thank you :)

After the feeling of awe there was saddness because there is such a high expectation for the ghost writer to make the next book worth the read. PLEASE finish Strange Fate as soon as possible !! Many of us have been waiting a decade for this book (including me!!) and this is one book I really want to read in the near future... Also, one of my other favorite series was Forbidden Game, and I am so HAPPY to see a sequel in the works. I hope Julian comes back, that is rune is carved back in the staff, he was one of my all time fave characters. I love your books. Midnight was pretty good too, the best book (I think anyway) out of the newest VD series. Wish you well, and keep writing for your fans for many many years to come. :)

Ahh I'm so happy to have found out that Strange Fate is online to buy, I've been looking forward to reading this book for years. I started reading L.J.Smith when I was 14, (now 21) when I came across Huntress in my local library. That book set the standards for me, I do however hate the Vampire Diaries programme, it's nothing like the books. I'm so glad that L.j's midnight made it to #5 on WSJ she's an incredible writer. I am just happy that the universe of characters is staying alive after all of theses years, It is amazing to me that 4 books I read 15 years ago as a teen have survived and grown into so much more! Think about the Star wars universe, and how many spin off stories have evolved from the three core movies, TVD lives on in our hearts and LJ Smith will always be one of my favorite authors, and I will cherish the memories of lazy summers at the lake glued to my vampire and witch books as a teen. Thank you!BTW As a teen I was an Elena/Stephan fan, as an adult I am so Damon!!

The first book I bought was The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening/The Struggle and fell in love with your writing. From there, I started buying the rest of that series and began on Night World and The Secret Circle. I plan on the getting the other series soon, hence the reason why I'm saving up my allowance.

Now as a 28 year old, I have read the next four too and I loved them now even more than before. I truly thought this book was very good. Dragged a smidgin in the middle, but otherwise was a very good book. The only regret I have is that you set up for Phantom and we won't ever truly see your version of the events of the book.
