Midnight Jewel Box Contest

This contest is different from any I’ve held before.  Ten people are going to be lucky winners—and they themselves will determine who is the Grand Prize Winner, simply by being the first to respond to the list of their names and cities and states (or cities and countries) in my blog on June 15, 2011. The other winners still will have control of their prizes, as they can pick which jewel box they want (while supplies last).  And what are the prizes?  They are gorgeous, hinged, satin-lined duck or goose eggs decorated to be stunningly beautiful, as you can see by the pictures.  They range from sleek black cases that say “owned by a vampire princess” to cameos that say “owned by an evil vampiress” :) to dainty dragonflies and butterflies to glorious royal carriages in blood red or wedding white (you can see a brown-haired Elena and a Salvatore Brother dancing in the latter).

The Grand Prize Winner will also win a $1,000 Tiffany Garden flower pendantbecause what is a jewel box without a jewel to put in it?  This Tiffany Garden flower pendant that “takes its inspiration from nature’s most beautiful blooms,“ is 18K rose gold with pear-shaped lavender amethysts and a round brilliant diamond in the center.  It is graceful, feminine, and comes on a 16-inch rose gold beaded chain.  READ MORE >>

This contest is for the biggest prize I’ve offered so far: one of the Master Keys from the Vampire Diaries: The Return trilogy.  The Master Keys play as big a part in Midnight as they do in Nightfall and Shadow Souls, and this prize is a genuine Tiffany Key, 18k gold and an enormous 2.25" long (there are almost no styles longer than this; and none in gold!).  Moreover, the key makes a gorgeous statement with three diamonds to represent . . . well, let’s say the love triangle of your choice.  The entire package, key and chain, sells for $1,475.  But you can win it with a single email.

WHO CAN ENTER

The winner of the Master Key will also receive an personalized autographed copy of Midnight. Please note that this contest is open to all countries, but that you must be responsible for any customs forms or duty taxes which may be levied by your government (this does not apply to entrants in the USA, obviously).

Those are all the comments I have received so far.  I hope the other Grand Prize Winner checks in soon.

THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED.

This contest is now closed and the entries are being gathered to be randomly selected by a third party.· When they are selected, they will be informed by e-mail, and the Grand Prize winner will have her/his first name posted in the Blog.  The winners of both autographed Secret Circle books and the two Grand Prize Winners, who won the two exquisite Unicorn Eggs have been notified, and will, I hope, send me their addresses.  I also hope the Grand Prize Winners find the sparkling Unicorns and the beautiful gold and white “shells” of their eggs as delightful as I do.

Unicorn_egg_closedThis contest is for something so beautiful—so exquisite—that there will be two identical Grand Prizes, as well as ten autographed Secret Circle (Omnibus 1) books.   If you have read The Secret Circle or the first half of the new novella Cassie & Nick: Deep Waters, then you know that Cassie, the protagonist, not only has an extensive unicorn collection, but in Secret Circle comes to be identified with the shy but loving unicorns themselves.  That’s what gave me the idea for this contest, in which two identical modern Fabergé-style eggs will be given away.

Each egg is a little bigger than a hen’s egg, and much heavier.  As you can see from the pictures, the Unicorn Surprise Egg is lovely when closed, and absolutely exquisite when opened.  The tiny, perfect unicorn’s body glitters with inset white crystals in the light, and there is even a sparkling deep blue eye.

The eggs come inside two boxes, outer and inner, both blue.  The inner box, which is made of enamel, is luxuriously padded in a silky material to gently cradle the egg.

Please note: these are not the original Fabergé eggs Tsar Alexander III had manufactured for his family—you can read about them in Wikipedia.  But they are not only exquisite: they are absolutely impossible to find these days.  I bought these two from a company that sells Russian art, and I noticed that, although their store now lists other eggs, the unicorn eggs are gone.  Since that was my lone source, I doubt I’ll ever be able to offer these eggs as prizes again.  Me, I’m hanging on to one I bought over a decade ago.

As usual in these contests, please send an email to info@ljanesmith.net and put CASSIE’S UNICORN EGG in the subject field. (If you send it from the website, the icon below this description automatically puts the heading in for you.)  Also as usual, please send only one entry per email address, and there will be only one prize to a household.  If you like, inside the email you can write something about whether you believe Cassie should stay with Adam, or whether you think Nick has a ghost of a chance. :)  Or if you would like to see a sequel to Secret Circle or have something to say about the TV option, feel free.

The two Grand Prizes will be available to everyone, regardless of their country.  I’m afraid that the autographed books are only available to people in the USA, due to difficulties with Customs.

TO ENTER:

1. Press the img_message-already-read64 icon below then fill in the necessary form fields.
2. Select "Contest" under the "To" field
(Current Contest Title will automatically fill in for you.)
3. Write any additional message to L. J. then click "Send."

This contest will BEGIN NOVEMBER 10, 2010, and END ON JANUARY 7, 2011, after which the winners will be announced.

Also—I shouldn’t have to say this, but—only one entry from any email address, and only one prize to a home address.

Good luck!

Black Rose Contest

UPDATE 2/28/11:

Grand Prize Winner Says:

"THANK YOU SO MUCH! I'M SO EXCITED, I CAN'T STAND IT! I KEPT MY FINGERS CROSSED! IT WORKED!"

-- Sandra C. from Gilbert, AZ (yes, Gilbert as in Elena Gilbert!)

THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED.

This contest is now closed and the entries are being gathered to be randomly selected by a third party.  • When they are selected, they will be informed by e-mail, and the Grand Prize winner will have her/his first name posted in the Blog. THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING. GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!Smile

First, let me say that each of the eleven prizes that will be sent will include an autographed label that you can place inside your favorite L. J. Smith book.  Since I don’t do autographs any other way, not even if you send me a self-addressed-stamped envelope (sorry, too many, and I need all my time for writing new books!) this is your chance to have a bookplate with my autograph to you personally—in any words you choose!  So in a sense each of these prizes is invaluable, though I guess eBay would put a price on an autographed book by me.

This contest is the first that should appeal equally to lovers of both The Vampire Diaries and the Night World series.  The prizes are startlingly lovely, divinely detailed roses . . . black roses, that is.  Each one is made from a real rose dipped in exquisite black enamel, and trimmed with 24-karat gold so that each petal is perfectly delineated. The stem is gold-plated as well (complete with thorns!) , and the two leaves are the proper dark green of a rose, trimmed with gold, and surprisingly lifelike.  The pictures I have don’t really do these black beauties justice.  The roses are satisfactorily heavy in the hand and look wonderful placed on a dresser or in a china cabinet.  Just don’t drop them on a hard floor!  I will be giving away ten of these black roses, each in its own beribboned gold gift box.

The Grand Prize is a black rose plus a 24-karat entirely gold plated “perfect rose,” which will come with a handwritten note from me on one of my personal gift cards.  The “perfect rose” is just what it sounds like . . . a sort of fairy tale golden rose which looks as if it were fresh from the fingers of King Midas.  The makers take extra steps in making the rose, and dip each petal separately, thus coming up with the most perfect golden rose you will find anywhere—and believe me, I’ve sampled all the shops.  The Grand Prize Winner will also receive a special autographed book if they like, rather than a bookplate.

So now you can flaunt your own evidence of being a Night World vampire who belongs to the Black Rose Club . . . or, if The Vampire Diaries is more your style, you can own what Damon found in the middle of the bouquet in Shadow Souls, and which will continue to figure in The Vampire Diaries saga through Midnight and possibly into Phantom.  All it takes is one email addressed to info@ljanesmith.net, with Black Rose Contest in the subject field.  You can leave the body of the email blank, or, if you feel it’s luckier, you can write about which affiliation you have or simply why you want a black rose.

Attention!  Please, please follow the rule about putting Black Rose Contest in the subject field exactly (and no, it won’t be in bold, I’m just using bold to show you the words to write).  If you write Rose Contest or Contest or Contest for Black Rose or anything other than Black Rose Contest I won’t be able to find your email when it comes time to alphabetically sort my emails and give them to the attorney to have eleven randomly drawn: ten prize winners and one Grand Prize winner.

Due to the fragile nature of the prizes in this contest, it is only open to residents of the USA. Good luck!

TO ENTER:

1. Press the img_message-already-read64 icon below then fill in the necessary form fields.
2. Select "Contest" under the "To" field
(Current Contest Title will automatically fill in for you.)
3. Write any additional message to L. J. then click "Send."

This contest will run from January 9 until February 28.· After winners have been drawn, they will be notified.· Don’t bother to enter if you don’t have a non-P.O. box address that you can give, or if you never check your email, because if I can’t get an address I can’t send you your prize.· I have no interest at all in sending you anything other than your prize, as everyone who has ever won a prize from my contest will affirm.· One entry per email address and one prize per street address.

Good luck!

UPDATE 11/16/2010:
The winners in the Bonnie's Opal Ring contest have been chosen.
They are being notified at this time.  Thanks, everyone for an absolutely unbelievable turnout.  More info here later.

THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED.

This contest is now closed and the entries are being gathered to be randomly selected by a third party.  When they are selected, they will be informed by e-mail, and the Grand Prize winner will have her/his first name posted in the Blog.  The winners of the ten Shadow Souls books and the Grand Prize Winner of Bonnie’s Opal Ring will have three weeks to contact us after being informed by email that they have won.

Bonnies-opal-ring-700

If you've read Vampire Diaries: Volume 6: Shadow Souls, then you know that Bonnie is sent home with an opal ring set with diamonds, as well as many other pieces of opal jewelry, and I can tell you in advance that this opal ring gains great significance in Vampire Diaries: Volume 7: Midnight.

So I can't think of a better prize right now than "Bonnie's Opal Ring"--which has been slightly sized down from its book description (which would hardly be suitable, except as a cocktail ring!).

Now you can win this version of Bonnie’s opal ring!  It’s made of 14 karat gold and 14 karat white gold, with one central opal and diamonds sprinkled around it.  This is a gorgeous ring that sells for over $700—so pretty that I got one for myself!  And if you didn’t win an autographed Shadow Souls book during the last contest, here’s your chance, because I’m offering ten this time round as second prizes.

Unfortunately, I’m afraid I’m going to have to confine the autographed book part of this contest to readers in the United States, just because I have had so much difficulty mailing prizes to other countries.  HOWEVER THE OPAL RING IS A PRIZE OPEN TO EVERYONE— IN ALL COUNTRIES.

TO ENTER:

1. Press the img_message-already-read64 icon below.
2. Fill in the "From and E-mail" field as required.
3. Select "Contest" under the "To" field
(Current Contest Title will automatically fill in for you.)
4. Write any additional message to L. J. then click "Send."

Inside, if you like, you can let me know who you think Bonnie should end up with in the Vampire Diaries.  Will it be Matt?  Damon?  Some boy yet to be introduced?  I’d love to hear your opinion.

This contest will begin September 15, 2010, and END ON NOVEMBER 10, 2010, after which the winners will be announced.

Also—I shouldn’t have to say this, but—only one entry from any email address, and only one prize to a home address.

Good luck!
