L. J. Smith (the initials stand for Lisa Jane) is the author of a number best-selling books and series, and her writing has spawned two television series and been translated into over thirty-five languages. She lives in the Bay Area of northern California, USA, but she gets her best ideas watching deer in the backyard of a small cabin in Inverness or walking on the rocky beaches that surround that area. She enjoys movies and music, and often listens to her favorite songs as she writes. She loves to hear from readers at info@ljanesmith.net, and to hold book-related contests on her website, www.ljanesmith.net. She reads all her email and Guestbook entries and even answers whenever she can.
The Vampire Diaries: The Hunters: Phantom*, HarperTeen.
*Inside Story: Lisa wrote a book of this name, but Alloy Entertainment Inc., which owns half the copyright and originally asked Lisa to write The Vampire Diaries in 1990 as "work for hire" has had the book completely rewritten by an anonymous ghostwriter. The credit on the book will say "Created by L. J. Smith" Lisa will not be allowed to write further Vampire Diaries, although she has asked both Alloy Entertainment Inc. and HarperTeen to do so. The series is now in the hands of an anonymous ghostwriter. (See the Booklist for further details.)
Note: Lisa has nothing to do with the TV-tie-ins: Stefan's Diaries. General Rule of Thumb: If a book has several names on the cover or says "Created By L. J. Smith" you could be sure that L. J. did not write it.
