The supernatural CW series kicked off Sunday's fan-favorite ceremony by winning five surfboard-shaped trophies. "Vampire Diaries" was honored for fantasy/sci-fi TV show, Ian Somerhalder for fantasy/sci-fi TV actor, Nina Dobrev for fantasy/sci-fi TV actress, Candice Accola for TV female scene stealer and Michael Trevino for TV male scene stealer.

Other early winners included Ellen DeGeneres for choice comedian and Sophia Grace and Rosie for choice Web stars. The pair of young British girls became popular after a video of them singing Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass" went viral.

Teen Choice Awards host and new "The X Factor" judge Demi Lovato said 134 million votes were cast for the awards, which honors film, TV, music and sports stars in such silly categories as choice hottie, villain, liplock and hissy fit. READ MORE OF THE ORIGINAL STORY HERE >>

Cast Interview at Comic-Con 2012There will be some big changes in Mystic Falls when The Vampire Diariesreturns, since Elena was changed at the end of last season.

During an interview with EW’s Tim Stack at Comic-Con, Nina Dobrev explained that “we don’t know” what kind of vampire Elena will be.

But Ian Somherhalder ventured a guess. “Damon and Stefan have been known to be extremely volatile,” he said. “By virtue of the fact that Elena is such a solid human being, even though she’s sort of this beacon of light, and shepherd through the valley of darkness for other people — who’s to say that she’s going to be this way when she becomes a vampire.”

Plus how do they feel about that other vampire show — True Blood? Watch the full Comic-Con chat below to find out.  VIEW THE VIDEO AT EW.COM >>

The casting directors are auditioning actors for guest starring, recurring and day player roles in both Los Angeles and Atlanta. In addition to the acting roles, extras are being hired in Atlanta throughout the season. The network has ordered a full 22 episodes that will begin airing in October, 2012. "The Vampire Diaries" is based on the book series of the same name written by L. J. Smith.

The series has an impressive cast that stars Nina Dobrev in a double role as Elena Gilbert, a beautiful young girl caught between two vampire brothers, and as Katherine Pierce, the ruthless vampire the brothers knew and loved in the nineteenth century. Ian Somerhalder plays Damon Salvatore, the elder of the two vampire brothers, and Paul Wesley is Stefan Salvatore, the younger brother. Dobrev, Somerhalder and Wesley have each won Teen Choice Awards for their roles, among other award nominations and/or wins.  READ MORE AND WATCH THE VIDEO AT EXAMINOR.COM >>

The world’s current fascination with all things vampire is good news for California author L.J. Smith, whose gothic output includes The Vampire Diaries and the Night World series of novels.

Where do you draw inspiration from ?
I’m not sure where I find inspiration for my characters, especially my bad boys. Maybe they come from a part of my unconscious. I love bad boys best, and Gabriel is a prime example. I wanted to do a vampire that didn’t suck blood, but took energy directly. He was fun to write.

Have vampires changed over time?
Well, if you go back to the first vampire, Dracula by Bram Stoker, he was cruel and evil and not really very romantic. I think that over time vampires have become romanticized, and each writer adds little rules for their own special vampires.

How long does it take to write one of your books?
Well, I wrote the first three Vampire Diaries books in nine months. Just three months for each book. But those were short books, and today I write 600-page books. Now it takes me at least six or seven months per book.  /// READ ORIGINAL INTERVIEW HERE @ Metro >>
