I would be very happy if you passed along any info. from my above post. The goal is to inform as many people as possible. I must say though that I didn't start the petitions. I just don't want to take credit for others' work. I know for sure the person who started the second one wouldn't mind. We've exchanged emails. I really doubt the other person would mind because the more signatures the better.

Another way to help is what I said in Guestbook 19:
"When the books come out, open up MSPaint and create graphics to print out and leave in every book at stores in your area:

"This was not written by L.J.Smith. Harper Alloy fired her. Email or write to complain:

Print out dozens of those graphics on basic paper and place these just inside of every Phantom book you find. Don't forget the ones behind the face front."

Also, I sent a request to LJ's facebook, and after months all I got out of it was a report that I was a fake name and temporary shutdown of my account. I submitted my driver's license and social security card to the website to prove myself. Now that's cleared up. Does anyone know who's in charge of LJ Smith's facebook account?

I don't know if this site is ran by the actual author L.J. Smith or by the publishing company, but I just want to point out, that if a publishing company is going to give a series to a ghost writer, that the said writer should at LEAST know the last names of his new characters. I got Phantom tonight to read, and throughout the whole book, Meredeth's last name is Suarex, instead of Sulez. WTH!!!!! This book will be returned. I am highly disappointed!

Most of the characters didn't make it, which of course changes so many story lines. And the characters that they do have do not match their book counterparts. Am I the only one disappointed with this? I know tons of people were upset about the Vampire Diaries being desecrated, but what about TSC? Am I alone in thinking the CW screwed it up? I'm sorry to be negative, I'm just soooo disappointed in this. I actually feel a little teary-eyed.

I totally agree here, I was so excited to see they were making a tv series of my 2nd favourite L.J. Smith trilogy. Now I'm totally disapointed, the story is nothing like the books. I know when you put a book on film some liberties are needed but they cut over half the characters and those left are nothing like they are supposed to be. I'll admit I haven't been able to read te series for a long time for various reasons, but I only needed 5 minutes into th first episode to know something had gone terribly wrong.

The reality is that stories which work wonderfully in a book, don't transfer wonderfully into tv or a movie. Even Peter Jackson used creative licence to make Lord of the Rings a more exciting movie trilogy than the books.
I love both the books and the tv show of The Vampire Diaries - but you have to treat them as two seperate worlds that just happen to share some basic character names.

I think that its bad that the pictures jan sovak paint is all diffrent for example if you look at the pictures of Elena you can see that on alla the pictures is diffrent the only thing they got in common is that all of them have blue eyes and yellow light hair but the face is all diffrent even if i think it is good that he make many pictures of the same person its still bad that he paint diffrent on all of them i know that ts hard to paint but he is a good painter so i think he can paint them more like earchatter.

I totally disagree. When characters are described in a book each person forms a mental picture of what the characters look like. There can be various interpretations of the same character. What Jan Sovak has done was beautifully capture three of these versions of Elena. They are different from each other as each person visualizes her a little different. I think that he has done a wonderful job by allowing us to see Elena from different perspectives.

I totally agree with you on that front. I haven't had a chance to read the books until these past few weeks and I fell in love with them. I only could watch half n'hour of the pilot. I felt like my brain was going to implode. Not just from all the book inaccuracy, which I expected. :)

It was horrible. Nothing like the books. It should be loosely based off the books and not based on them. It was disappointing to say the least. You are better off sticking to the books. I think anyone who sees the show then reads the books will be disappointed as well. It's just bad.

Maybe there could be a Lisa Book of the Month feature? Not only feature one of her books (Night of the Solstice and Heart of Valor need more love!), but Lisa could maybe add a bit saying what inspired her to write the book, books she likes that are similar, etc.? And if fans knew what book was coming in the month ahead, we could send in fond memories of our first time reading it, etc. Or even have a read-along club or something.

Well, everything I want to know is already here on the site, I check the guestbook frequently, and the website as well because I am waiting on the publishing date for Strange fate.. I think all the stuff about the tv serie should be on a separate website, since it is only indirectly a product of L.J. I think it is important that the website is about Lisa and the books she has written, and is going to write or is writing... I am very curious though about if lisa listens to any music while writing the books.. I know it is kind of a writers trend at the moment to have a playlist with the books... But it would still be pretty awesome!!!

I wish it was that easy to just cut off the TV from the books. It isn't. My only hope is that the interested viewers of the show gets curious enough to want read the original source materials of the books. In general I feel that books were so much better than any TV or movie interpretations ...

Well, i did not like Stefan ending with Elena. She had to be with Damon! It s unfair.. Can you write a book (haha) or another chapter (something like..alternati ve ending) for VD? I mean.. Damon is so much cool!! the character devolopment was amazing!! And u can see by your poll that he is the favorite!
The fan would be so grateful!! Well, I, at least, wanted to see how would be an Elena+Damon ending.

hi everybody! its just a quick thing to say that i always knew stefan would end up with Elena. Dont get me wrong, im a delena fan ALL the way, but you could just tell. I think Damon and Elenas little moments are maybe better than them even being together. I mean, if Damon got elena, what would damon do? that was his role from the start. Try to get elena, Save the Day, be all mysterious and a hunk along the way.

No, Damon is getting all the votes because he is such a complex, mysterious, adictive, passionate character. He never gets a break and yet always bounces back. Book Damon is my personal favourite and Ian does a fantastic job of portraying such a multi-layered character.

Yeah, I agree; Ian must have a really hard job of portraying Damon!
I think LJ has done a brilliant job of writing Damon as well, because to write out a character you have to really get into their head, so you know what they're going to do, how they'll respond, what they think of everyone around them - and you have to make sure they're believable and realistic.
Basically, Damon was a practically impossible character to write . . . Until LJ Smith managed it so beautifully

L.J. Smith will not be allowed to write anymore Vampire Diaries. It was taken from her and given to a ghostwriter. She has fought long and hard to prevent/reverse this decision, but Alloy (the book packaging company) will not budge. This was allowed to happen because of a “work for hire” clause in the original contract she signed in the �?90s when she really didn’t understand what it meant. Midnight was written fully by L.J. Smith, and when she wrote it she thought she would be continuing the series. The next book, Phantom, was written by L.J. Smith, but the publishers told the ghostwriter to rewrite it. However, it will still say “Created by” L.J. Smith. I won’t be buying it because a) I don’t think it will be any good and b) I think it was very underhanded move by Alloy to do what they did. While Lisa clearly has the talent, creativity, and willingness to produce a sequel that is of the caliber and quality that we expect and she has always delivered, Alloy lacks the intelligence and integrity to allow that to happen. They have once again proven that they are beyond a doubt unworthy of our money. I hope that whenever these atrocities hit the market they are met with a mass boycott. Relax. Waiting three years, if that is what we have to wait is nothing. I am one of the many fans who have been reading Lisa's books since they were originally published in the 90's. The original date that we first expected to read her "Strange Fate" was in 1997 (I believe). The thing to do is to re-read the many wonderful stories that she has written and continue to support her. When Lisa and her publisher finally bring us "Strange Fate", we will all celebrate. In the meantime, happy reading.

Ayesha, publishers usually have a software they use to keep track of all their books' information, and some of this information (such as release date) gets "pushed out" to the booksellers at a certain point. Strange Fate's 2009 release date was obviously pushed to the booksellers (and therefore the public) prematurely. I suspect that, at this point, the publisher has put this 2014 date in their software as a "holding date" until they have a REAL date, and since the information was already pushed to the booksellers, they can't pull it back now. This is why Lisa says not to believe a date until she posts it here; because the publisher will be providing a "filler date" until such time as they have a real date.

The TV Series premiered last week and it is really good, although, as in The Vampire Diaries, they changed a lot of things. It is different, but good either way!

I’m guessing that the 4 Vampire Diaries books you read were from the original series. Do you know that Lisa also wrote The Vampire Diaries: The Return? There are 3 books in that series, Nightfall, Shadow Souls, and Midnight.
Unfortunately, Midnight is the last Vampire Diaries book Lisa will be allowed to write. She did not choose to stop writing Vampire Diaries. It was taken from her and given to a ghostwriter. She has fought long and hard to prevent/reverse this decision, but Alloy (the book packaging company) will not budge. This was allowed to happen because of a “work for hire” clause in the original contract she signed in the �?90s when she really didn’t understand what it meant. Phantom was written by Lisa, but the publishers told the ghostwriter to rewrite it. However, it will still say “Created by L.J. Smith.” I won’t be buying it because a) I don’t think it will be any good and b) I think it was very underhanded move by Alloy to do what they did.

This is what I think happen. Lisa was planning to write Deep Waters and probably already wrote much of it. Then Alloy suddenly decides they want to go with a ghostwriter. I'm sure Lisa hasn't given a more detailed explanation because it is the same situation as what happened with The Vampire Diaries. I feel so bad for her because it must be very emotionally straining to have to go through the same thing all over again. I don't blame her for not wanting to talk about it. We can connect the dots on our own.

Lisa wrote Phantom, but Alloy told the ghostwriter to rewrite it. Phantom may or may not contain some of Lisa's writing. The thing to remember is that Lisa was not allowed to have any say in how the book turned out. Whether or not the ghostwriter uses some of Lisa's work does not change the fact that Phantom is a ghostwritten book and because of that many of Lisa's fans will not be buying it. I know I don't want to buy it, read it, or even hear about what happens in it.

If they didn't have permission to use her already written work from Phantom though and they use some of her information/wri ting can't she sue them for plagiarism? I know she signed a work for hire but I'm pretty sure they can't use her actual work and let some ghost writer use it to write her own story, using her charters is one thing but basing a book from her work is different right??? Any way if I were Lisa I sue them SOB's for everything they are worth!!!

I’m with you on wanting to sock it to Alloy. But, unfortunately, they do have a right to use the material Lisa has already written. It may not be right, but it is legal. Lisa’s hands are tied in regards to any way she can fight this. She has tried everything she could. That is why it is all the more important for us as her fans to fight any way we can. We have something Alloy wants and they cannot have it unless we give it to them. That is money. So far they have ignored us, but they won’t be able to ignore the bottom line. Let’s show them that we are united.

I won't buy anything unless L j smith writes it, it makes me so mad that they can do this. But regardless no matter what the ghost writer does she will never capture that magic that brings L. J. Smith's stories alive no one can write Damon the way L. j. does!!! When the book comes out I'm going to my barnes and nobles and placing a piece of paper by the new book that explains everything that happened hopefully anyone with morals wont buy the book after reading it. :) It not much but even if it stops one person from buying the book I"ll be happy. I just wish I knew how the story was really suppose to end :(

I have read all of the VD Books and I just finished the Night World books, I think I actually liked the NW series better. Don't get me wrong the first set of VD books were awesome but, the last one felt rushed, so much happening it was crazy...I do like Elena but; how could you not love Bonnie..she is really a great character..I just don't think anyone could write bonnie the way LJ does. I won't buy the next book I think the series should have ended with Damon and Elena together he is so much more interesting than stefan. I love your work LJ keep it up. I signed all the petitions I could find. I hope the morons who decided they could continue without your guidance will see the light.

What I've never understood is why Simon and Schuster let Strange Fate get so far in the publication process before deciding they wanted the Brionwy material cut. They (S&S;) created cover art and announced a release date. They published not one, but TWO separate teaser chapters, (chapter one in the Fan Guide, chapter two in Jessica Verday's "The Hollow.") Usually these things don't happen until the book is, indeed, about ready to print. What happened?Why did the publisher tease fans, then pull back?

In the first three part i was totally Stelena and Loved Damon not at all or very little [ it was over 10 yrs ago]
But present day and the time damon and Elena have spent together, i Really feel bad for him and appreciate his love for Elena. A small part of me sympathises with Elena, over her growing love for Damon but if Lisa was not a fantastic author i may very well have disliked

Elena for her betrayal to Stefan or her unexpected love leaving Damon high and dry and nowhere to go in midnight.
He is neither, no longer evil or hiding his vulnerably side [took the lashes for her, aaah]whatever your view is on the matter but sadly is left outside alone. Watching the group of friends, their love for Elena and respect for Stefan and none in particular for him. Only Elena has seen his true self and even that he doesn't remember. Therefore, i have stopped reading midnight, the FINAL V.D book in my opinion as im too tortured to go on. But my point is I was as a teenager, very much in love with Stefan, still am but I appreciate Damon too.
But in the books I am strictly [minus a very small part in midnight] a Stelena ending fan.
So no your not the only freaks there, I am too!

I agree! I would love to see any of Lisa’s books made into movies, especially The Forbidden Game. In general, authors are not the ones that decide if their books are made into movies. It is up to their agents to sell movie rights to movie studios. Lisa gives a similar response under the F.A.Q. listed under the “Author” tab. www.ljanesmith.net/.../faq As far as what we as fans could do, I really don’t have a clue. I suppose we could write to movie studios, but that would take thousands of fan letters. Even then, I don’t know how much weight it would hold. Here is a link to a site that explains the work that goes into promoting a book to be made into a movie. andyrossagency.wordpress.com/. ../... It is really quite an extensive process.

Sorry I don't have more promising information. I hope this helps some.
