logo_tvpixieBased on the book series by The Vampire Diaries author LJ Smith, The Secret Circle comes to Sky Living next week.

The Secret Circle is a romantic drama with a supernatural twist. Cassie is a normal teenage girl but when her mother dies in an accident, she moves to live with her grandmother in the small town of Chance Harbour, Washington, where the residents seem to know more about Cassie than she does. Strange things begin to happen and her new friends reveal that they are all descended from powerful witches, and they’ve been waiting for Cassie to join them to complete a new generation of the Secret Circle.

What Cassie and the others don’t yet know is that darker powers are at play, powers that might be linked to the adults in the town, including Diana’s father and Faye’s mother – and that Cassie’s mother’s death might not have been an accident.

Do we need another paranormal drama? It seems fans of the genre have not yet sated their thirst for the supernatural. The Secret Circle joins Sky Living after British drama Bedlam topped the channel's viewing figures this spring.

The first of thirteen episodes of The Secret Circle airs next Wednesday, 28 September, 8pm on Sky Living and Sky Living HD.

'Vampire Diaries' casts 'Supernatural' star Sebastian Roche as mysterious vampire hunter -- EXCLUSIVE

Sebastian Roche, whose character Balthazar was last seen stabbed by Castiel in the Supernatural season finale, has been booked as a recurring guest star on the new season of The CW’s The Vampire Diaries.

Executive producer Julie Plec tells EW Roche will play “a very mysterious man who appears to be hunting vampires, most specifically Klaus.” Mysterious indeed. As Plec explains, “For some reason, Klaus, who shouldn’t be afraid of anybody, seems to be concerned about this person.” The character was originally to be named Eric, but since the show is also introducing a character in season 3 named Bill (Heroes‘ Jack Coleman), the name of Roche’s character will be changing. “To protect from accidental True Blood comparisons,” Plec laughs. (For the record, on TVD, “Bill” will be a former Mystic Falls resident who returns to point out all the failings of the current Council’s attempts to keep vampires out-of-town.)

Plec is vague about when we’ll meet Bill and He Who Shall Be Renamed, but expect them each to arrive sometime during the season’s first chapter (roughly the first nine episodes). If Roche’s character makes Klaus nervous, does that mean he’s the Big Bad? ”He is big, and he is bad, but I would dare not say if he is the true Big Bad or not, trademark Joss Whedon,” Plec says. “If you’ve learned anything from the Whedonverse seasonal-structuring school like we have, then there might be some bigger and badder people coming [later].” Read More.

'The Secret Circle's Shelley Hennig spills about her character Diana

img_shelley_hennig

August 10, 2011 - The Secret Circle actress Shelley Hennig spills some new info about her character in the series, Diana Mead.

The CW Network has released a preview that features new scenes from the show's premiere as well as a short interview with Shelley. In the clip Shelley explains a bit about her character Diana and how she came to be the the leader of the witch coven which she belongs to.

"I play Diana Mead who is the leader of the coven," Shelley revealed, "She's the only one that has the book of spells, so because of that she is in charge."

While most of the scenes have already been shown in previous clips, there are a couple of segments that are new. One of these segments is the one showing how Diana tells Cassie about the book of spells she found, explaining that this makes her the leader. She also tells her that if Cassie joins the coven they will be able to do great things with their power.

Another new scene features Diana with other coven members including Faye (Phoebe Tonkin) and Adam (Thomas Dekker) having a meeting in their secret hiding place.

In the scene, Diana questions Adam for having done magic with newcomer Cassie (Britt Robertson), by making water float. He tries to defend himself by saying that he thought showing Cassie some magic tricks would make her less afraid of it.

Then, we also get a tease from Shelley, which may steer the TV series away from the book's story, that sort of questions Diana's loyalty to the good side.

"Diana is a good witch... for now," Shelley said. So, can we expect to see Diana turn in addition to Faye? Or will Faye be the good one on the television version of The Secret Circle?

As the clip reveals, we get a glimpse of Diana's jealousy when she finds out Adam, who is her boyfriend, did magic with Cassie. Going by the books, Adam has feelings for Cassie, although he really loves Diana, so it will be interesting to see which way the TV series will take this storyline.

As we now know, on the premiere episode of The Secret Circle, Cassie moves to the new town where the witches live and learns she is also part of the coven. The current young group of high school witches lets her in on the secret and explains to her who she is.

'The Secret Circle' EP Kevin Williamson Says L.J. Smith's Writing 'Taps Into My Happy Place'

The showrunner explains both the challenges and pleasures of adapting the author's novels for television.

Kevin Williamson, Executive ProducerThe CW’s new fall series, The Secret Circle, doesn’t just share the night and creative team behind The Vampire Diaries, but the source material comes from the same author, L.J. Smith.

“The books are as old as The Vampire Diaries,” executive producer Gina Girolamo tells reporters on Thursday’s Television Critics Association (TCA) Press Tour. “And because of the success of The Vampire Diaries, we at Alloy looked at it as a potential new companion and brought it to the studio right away and they loved it.”

The Secret Circle deals with the world of witches. Life Unexpected’s Britt Robertson stars as Cassie, who finds herself orphaned and living in the town her mother once left without looking back. Unexplained things begin to happen to and around her and then she finds a group of other teens who seem to know more about her than she does.

Showrunner, Kevin Williamson, says that he isn’t drawn to adapting Smith’s novels, because they lend themselves easily to television. In fact, he says it’s quite the opposite. Read More.
